1st Grade News - 3/14/16

March 14th is a special day for math enthusiasts and we'll have a little fun in our classroom learning about Pi Day.

Link up to Scholastic for a kid-friendly explanation as well as a few ideas for classroom activities.

For our classroom activity, I created a variation of the skyline projects found on many teacher blogs and Pinterest.  Because Pi Day 2016 falls on a double special day for my students, I needed a simple activity that could be completed in one block.

Students will use markers, colored pencils or crayons to color in the grid with the first 20 digits.  They might choose to use a variety of colors to represent the buildings or as a challenge create a color code to complete their cityscape.

1= black, 2 = orange, etc.

I look forward to seeing how the kiddos use their creativity to create Pi Cityscapes.

We celebrated 120 days of school last week with language arts and math activities. At the end of the day, our office staff treated our 1st graders to popcorn.  Life is good in first grade. :)
